Lodging

The entire weekend will be spent somewhere in The Grand Mesa on the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains.  Exactly where depends on where our instructor finds the best tracks and sign… what the animals gift to us.

Terry has participated in more than 15 TCNA trainings around the country over the past three years from the SoCal desert, coast and mountains, Central California coast and mountains, to Florida, New York, Ohio and Washington State learning wild animal track and sign in different areas of the country.

Terry’s experience:  “Sometimes the entire two days is conducted within a diameter of 10 miles.  On other trainings, we may travel 120 miles over the course of the 2 days to reach the best tracking locations.  It all depends on where the best animal track and sign are located.   In any event, a two-wheel drive vehicle will get you where you need to go.”

Camping

There are 56 campgrounds in the national forest all in or near Grand Mesa.

Map:  Note the little town of Mesa in the upper left.  Grand Mesa is in the center of the map – in the area of the lakes south of Crag Crest Campground.

Ski Chalet Sharing

Ski Chalet Sharing

This image is an example of the type of house described below

Terry will rent a nice ski chalet near Powderhorn Ski Resort similar to the one pictured above.  The rooms will be shared with other participants for a reasonable cost per night.  For a bedroom with a queen bed, probably around $110 per night for one and $130 for two.  For a shared dorm-type room with twin or bunk beds, about $60/night.   If you participate, you may check in any day after 2pm beginning July 31 and check out when you wish but no later than 9am August 12.

Cost Per Person

Depending on interest, capacity will be for 6-12 total participants  depending on number of beds, and number of single or doubles to a room.   If this option is of interest to you, please inquire immediately so we can gauge how many bedrooms to look for.

Powderhorn Ski Resort (indicated by the cluster of home-for-rent icons on the map) is about a 30 minute drive from The Grand Mesa area.   The little town of Mesa is in the upper left corner of the map and Grand Mesa at the lower right.

Ann and Terry returned on 9-25-23 from the Western New York eval.  Ann prepared dinner for all the participants (salads, homemade bread, appetizers along with a main course  of “build your own tacos”, seafood chowder or sloppy joes.  All the participants simply loved the evenings.
